The Young Woman of Distinction award recognizes exceptional young women who have made a valuable contribution to their school, community or workplace. The award was announced at a gala on May 31.

In addition to being a high-achieving and award-winning student, Alyx works with youth at the Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health and is a director of a children’s charity that has teamed up with the Max Keeping Foundation to help low-income families.  Alyx holds a black belt in martial arts and teaches martial arts to children of all abilities. She is particularly proud of one Taekwondo student with spina bifida who, with Alyx’s coaching, went on to win a gold medal at a competition.
