This past February, Antarctica wasn’t just a continent—it was also an open-air classroom for seven students from Carleton University.
Together with their instructors, Claudia Schröder-Adams, professor of earth sciences at Carleton, and Natalia Rybczynski, adjunct professor and research scientist at the Canadian Museum of Nature, the students traveled to the Antarctic Peninsula as part of an international learning expedition with the renowned Students on Ice organization. For two weeks, they studied Antarctica’s geological and fossil records and helped in a number of scientific experiments—and earned course credits at the same time.
Upon their return, the students presented their scientific findings and shared their stories at a public event held at the Museum of Nature on April 14. View the event program.
