If you have looked at the Herzberg Laboratories building from certain vantage points on campus, you may have noticed the Observatory situated on the flat roof. In the early 1980s, the Kessler Observatory, named after long time faculty member Dr. Dan Kessler who was instrumental in the observatory’s establishment, was officially opened. In 2011, the observatory was modernized and now houses a 14 inch Schmidt Cassegrain telescope and a small refractor telescope. Though used primarily for instructional purposes in support of the Physics department's two planetary and stellar astronomy courses, observation sessions will be held regularly in the fall term. Visit the Observatory website for more information.
