Laureen Harper welcomes local students competing in Let’s Talk Science’s All Science Challenge at Carleton on April 30

Wednesday, May 1, 2013

Carleton University  welcomed Laureen Harper and approximately 130 Grade 6, 7 and 8 students from 11 local schools for the 2013 Let’s Talk Science’s All Science Challenge. This event was one of 23 All Science Challenge competitions happening across the country in April and May.

The event is organized and hosted by Let’s Talk Science Outreach volunteers from Carleton University and the University of Ottawa. It's a fun-filled day of fast-thinking competition and teamwork that encourages young competitors to view science, technology, engineering and math as fun and to consider the many areas of science for future studies. Special guest speaker Laureen Harper opened the event.

Following the opening ceremonies, students competed in a design challenge, where they built an object using limited materials. In past competitions, students have constructed a cushion for an egg drop and a weight-bearing bridge, using 3M materials to complete the task. In the afternoon, students participated in an exciting quiz show that put their skills and knowledge to the test in disciplines such as space science, psychology, physics and biotechnology.
