Science Café Success

Friday, October 4, 2013

Kim Hellemans’ talk “Your brain on exercise” was a great success at the first science café of the academic year on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at the Sunnyside branch of the Ottawa Public Library.

Following our venue change from the old location (the Wild Oat in the Glebe), we were unsure of how many guests would be joining us, but with some hard work and dedication from volunteers, staff and faculty at Carleton, we achieved an outstanding turnout of over 90 people!

The faculty of science would like to thank all those who helped in the planning and success of this event, primarily Dr. Kim Hellemans, Starbucks for contributing some delicious coffee, and all those who came to support us for an engaging scientific discussion in our community.

Science cafés are put on by the Faculty of Science and are held twice a month in the fall and winter terms. Each café begins at 6:30 pm with a 20 minute talk by one of our science professors followed by a 40 minute open Q & A session. All are welcome! Visit the Café website for the fall schedule of talks.
