Prof. Peter Legzdins (B.Sc. Hons, 1964) is to be honoured early June at the annual conference of the Chemical Institute of Canada in Vancouver, by holding a four-session Symposium in his name.

After finishing his B.Sc. work in Chemistry under the direction of Don Wiles, Dr. Legzdins went to MIT for a Ph.D. under Prof. F.Albert Cotton.  Following a brief Post-Doctoral period with Nobel Prize winner Geoffrey Wilkinson, Legzdins was appointed to the Faculty in Chemistry at U.B.C., where he rapidly rose through the ranks and spent many years as head of the Chemistry Department.

Although now retired, he continues to supervise graduate students. He is recognized as a world authority on the chemistry of metal nitrosyl compounds.
