Computer Science student Michael Lutaaya launches iPhone app Bins

Tuesday, April 29, 2014

Michael Lutaaya, a second-year Computer Science student at Carleton University, has developed Bins, an iPhone app that makes keeping up with Ottawa's garbage and recycling schedule simple. On April 29 Bins will be available for free from the App Store!

With Bins, Ottawa residents can use their iPhone or iPod touch to see what will be picked up on the next garbage day in their neighbourhood. The app keeps a record of the collection schedule for each neighbourhood and makes it easy for users to find the schedule for where they live.

Bins has a sleek design and a unique set of features, including:

  • a clean and elegant interface for seeing the schedule for your neighbourhood
  • a straightforward setup process—just search for your address or use your current location;
    and
  •  quick access to garbage and recycling rules—tap on a bin to see the official instructions from the City of Ottawa website.

Bins is designed for iOS 7 and is only supported in the City of Ottawa. The app is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch. For more information, please visit UseBins.com.
