Important resources and orientation for new contract instructors

Monday, December 22, 2014

With a new term quickly approaching, there will be a number of instructors who will begin teaching at Carleton for the first time. The Office of the Associate Vice-President (Teaching and Learning) (OAVPTL) is hosting an orientation for all instructors, whether they’re looking for a first-time orientation or for a refresher on university policies about teaching and learning, lesson planning, inclusive learning environments, cuLearn, and student motivation.

The orientation will run on Thursday, January 8 from 5:30-9 p.m. in room 2017 Dunton Tower. Food and refreshments will be provided. We ask that everyone please RSVP before January 4  by visiting http://carleton.ca/edc/cu-events/contract-instructor-orientation-winter-2015

We also put together a number of resources for instructors, including our Teaching and Learning Services Guide (http://carleton.ca/edc/wp-content/uploads/TLS-Guide-2014-15-Web.pdf) and our Orientation Handbook for New Faculty and Contract Instructors (http://carleton.ca/edc/wp-content/uploads/New-Faculty-and-Contract-Instructor-Handbook-2014-15-Web.pdf). They include information on the services we offer as well as a number of teaching tips and general information about policies and procedures at Carleton.

The Educational Development Centre (EDC) also houses a number of teaching tips and technology guides on its website at www.carleton.ca/edc/publications and offers a variety of programs, workshops and events throughout the year geared towards instructors’ professional development. A list of upcoming events can be found at www.carleton.ca/edc/events.
