Post-doctoral Fellowship – Institute of Globalization and the Human Condition, McMaster University

McMaster’s Institute of Globalization and the Human Condition (IGHC), in the Faculty of Social Sciences, is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF). . The IGHC has a successful MA in Globalization and brings together scholars from Social Sciences and Humanities with interests in interdisciplinary research on globalization http://globalization.mcmaster.ca. Primary responsibilities for this position will involve background research and the development of a curriculum and program of study for a new interdisciplinary undergraduate degree in globalization with some emphasis on international development, human rights and/or the environment. The successful candidate should have a completed PhD with a graduate degree in globalization studies or a related area (International Relations, International Development, etc). Experience with interdisciplinary approaches to the study of globalization is an asset. The successful candidate is expected to have excellent research, writing, communication and organizational skills, and be able to work independently.

Value and Duration

Annual salary for this Postdoctoral Fellowship is $61,500 plus benefits. There is also some money to be allocated to travel associated with this position. Applicants can be expected to contribute approximately 60% of their time to the development of curriculum and 40% to a research project for which they should identify a supervisor at McMaster. The successful candidate is also eligible to teach a maximum of 6 units  at a value of $15,000, assuming that suitable courses are available. However teaching must not interfere with the successful completion of the research project. This is a taxablenon-renewable fellowship, tenable for 12 months. The award may begin on the first of any month between July 2014 and October 2014.

Eligibility to Apply

·    be a citizen or permanent resident of Canada (by the application deadline);

·    have earned a first doctorate from a recognized university no earlier than October 1, 2011 (date all degree requirements were completed, not the date of graduation), or have completed a first doctorate no earlier than October 1, 2008, but have had their career interrupted or delayed for the purpose of maternity, childrearing, illness, or health-related family responsibilities;

·    not hold a tenure or tenure-track faculty position;
