About The Centre:
The C.T. Lamont Primary Health Care Research Centre is part of the Bruyère Research Institute and the research arm of the University of Ottawa’s Department of Family Medicine. One of the largest primary health care research centres in Canada, The Centre is internationally known for its practice-relevant research centered on the organization and delivery of primary health care.
Program of research for the Postdoctoral Fellowship opportunity:
The Improved Delivery of Cardiovascular Care (IDOCC) Program is an innovative primary care quality improvement initiative that utilizes an Outreach Facilitation model to assist primary care providers in improving their delivery of evidence-based care for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. This $3 million project is the largest facilitation project ever run in Canada.
Data collection for IDOCC was completed in 2013. Given the participation of 93 practices and over 190 primary care providers, a vast range of data is available for analysis. Function summary:
A successful applicant will lead the data analysis and disseminate their findings via publications and conference presentations.
Major responsibilities:
- Developing and conducting an analysis of data drawn from practice audits and performance feedback, and determining the data’s relationship to the areas of care each practice worked on during the IDOCC intervention.
- Exploring primary care providers’ feedback on the facilitation program and patients’ compliance with drug prescriptions.
- Validating ICES administrative data using chart data from IDOCC.
The fellow will have a travel allowance to attend selected meetings and conferences.
Qualifications:
A PhD in Health Services Research, Nursing, or a related field.
Required skills and experience:
- Strong qualitative research skills.
- Familiarity with quantitative research methods.
- Excellent time management, organization, multi-tasking, and written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a research team.
In addition, an applicant should have particular interest in policy analysis for improving the functioning of our health care system.
