Rita Donovan, an instructor for the Institute for Technology, Society and Environmental Studies at Carleton, has been recognized as one of the finalists for the Ottawa Book Awards Fiction category. Her novel is titled “Maura Quell” is now available.
The Ottawa Book Awards and Prix du livre d’Ottawa recognize the top English and French books published in the previous year. Both awards have separate categories for fiction and non-fiction. All shortlisted finalists receive $1,000 and each winner receives a prize of $7,500. (Taken from website)

“The novel has interwoven storylines. In 1810 an English girl, Maura Quell, is convicted of a crime and sent on a ship to New South Wales. In present-day Canada, a woman named Aris Sandall searches through the archives and online to find a trace of a girl named Maura Quell. The book explores the distance human beings will travel to find one another.
Author of eight books. Two-time winner of the Ottawa Book Award; Rita Donovan has also received the CAA/Chapters Award and been nominated for the James Tiptree, Jr. Award, the Sunburst Award and the W.H. Smith/Books in Canada First Novel Award. Rita Donovan lives in Ottawa.”
