Social Media websites today can be vulnerable to interception of passwords. Never use the same password to log in to social media sites. Use a different one for your Facebook and Twitter and any other of your online social media accounts. Always protect yourself by never logging into these websites from an unsecured or unprotected wireless network as credentials can be potentially compromised. Always enable encryption “https” on your social media accounts.
Many Social Media sites offer 2 factor authentication with your mobile device and you should consider this as it offers enhanced security and will prevent your account from being compromised.
Be very careful about what you post and what type of audience might be able to see it. Many people besides friends and acquaintances are interested in the information people post on social networks. Identity thieves, scam artists, debt collectors, stalkers, are using social networks to gather information about people’s identity. Remember, always protect your privacy and your identity!
Regular changing of passwords will protect your identity and security of personal information.
