Math Matters Program Now Hiring – Application Deadline April 3rd

Friday, March 6, 2015

Math Matters is now accepting applications for student leaders for the 2015 Math Matters program! If you are currently a Carleton student pursuing a degree in Commerce, Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, International Business, Mathematics, or Science, you are eligible to apply.

These are paid positions that will build leadership skills, so don’t miss the deadline to apply: Friday, April 3rd. Math Matters takes place from August 20 to August 27, 2015, and mandatory training for all leaders will take place on Monday, August 17th.

Leaders prepare students for first-year Carleton math courses in math intensive degree programs by reviewing important high school math concepts. Special focus is placed on helping students learn how to learn the material being covered in the courses – discussing different ways to approach the material, applying concepts to a variety of problems, and recapping important ideas that need to be mastered. To qualify for a Math Matters student leader position, applicants must demonstrate mastery of algebra, equations, graphs, transcendental functions, trigonometry and calculus. They must also display outstanding leadership, communication and organizational skills. Previous experience teaching or facilitating classes, seminars or activities is considered an asset.
