Carleton’s David Sinclair will receive the inaugural Canadian Association of Physicists (CAP) -TRIUMF Vogt medal for his exceptional vision and contributions to the study of neutrino physics in the pioneering Sudbury Neutrino Observation (SNO).

Named in honour of top Canadian researcher and nuclear physicist, Erich Vogt, the CAP-TRIUMF Vogt Medal for Outstanding Experimental or Theoretical Contributions to Subatomic Physics recognizes and encourages outstanding experimental or theoretical contributions.

Dwight Deugo, associate professor at the School of Computer Science at Carleton University, has been nominated for the 2011 Manning Innovation Award for his iParked.ca parking system.

Since 1982, the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation has been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada. Open to all Canadians, the award recognizes innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure.

Kristina Dunbar, a third-year neuroscience student at Carleton, has won a Leading Women/Leading Girls Building Communities Recognition Program award from the provincial government.

Dunbar was nominated by Carleton’s Student Experience Office and Yasir Naqvi, MPP for Ottawa Centre and the parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Education.

Kenneth Storey, Canada Research Chair in Molecular Physiology at Carleton, is being awarded the prestigious Fry Medal from the Canadian Society of Zoologists.

The award is given to a Canadian zoologist who has made an outstanding contribution to knowledge and understanding of an area in zoology. It will be presented to Storey on May 16, 2011 when he delivers the Fry Lecture at the annual meeting of the society.

Four Carleton students have won a $1,000 prize for the Most Technically Challenging project at the Great Canadian Appathon (GCA) competition.

The GCA was a national 48- hour challenge organized by XMG Studios, that invited participants to make a fun and creative game for the Windows Phone 7 platform. With the help of the Carleton Game Development Club and the School of Computer Science, Carleton University was one of six hub locations to host this event.

Carleton student Bryan Luu is off to Vienna this summer for an amazing research opportunity.

Luu beat out 375 other applicants to win one of 25 coveted places at the Vienna Biocenter Summer School. This is the first time a Carleton student has been selected for this program which typically accepts applicants from Ivy League schools such as Cambridge, Oxford, Columbia, Yale and MIT.

Nikolai Chepelev, a PhD biology student, is off to work with scientists at the University of Southern California, Davis School of Gerontology, thanks to a research fellowship. Chepelev will continue his research on how a protein called Nrf1, a potentially vital player in the aging process, is regulated in human cells. Read more

Paulina Masson, a fourth-year student, owns and operates Contest Mob Inc., a community for those who enter online contests on a daily/weekly basis. The Contest Mob application provides a large sweepstakes databases, extensive details about each contest and features a contest entries organizer. With this win, Masson will now go on to Toronto to compete in a regional competition on March 18. Read more
