Maria DeRosa’s Lab Puts Science to Music and Wins a Prize

Chemistry Professor Maria DeRosa’s group is a finalist in a competition for Science Magazine that asked students to “Dance their PhD.” Their video was voted the best in the chemistry category and they have won a $500 prize.

“It was quite a team effort to explain scientific terms like aptamers through dance,” explains Dr. DeRosa. “I knew my team would come up with something quite innovative and they did.”

Carleton Physics Professor Wins Prestigious Award For Research in Medical Physics

Ottawa) - Carleton Physics Professor David W.O. Rogers has been awarded the 2010 William D. Coolidge Award from the 7,000-member American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM). He is the fourth Canadian recipient.

Faculty of Science Welcomes New Dean

On August 1, Dr. Malcolm Butler began his appointment as Dean of the Faculty of Science. Dr. Butler comes to Carleton from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax where he had been the Dean of the Faculty of Science since July 2006. His previous positions at Saint Mary’s include Chair of the Department of Astronomy and Physics and Professor of Physics. Prior to his move to Saint Mary’s in 1993, Dr Butler was an Assistant Professor and research scientist in the Department of Physics at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.
