The seventh annual Carleton University Chemistry Magic Show was held on Saturday, March 1, 2014. With 925 guests visiting the campus to see the show, it was a resounding success. Visitors were treated to demonstrations involving glow-in-the-dark chemical reactions and were able to see the effect of liquid nitrogen on some rather unfortunate flowers and eggs.

A group of Canadian university researchers, including Carleton Chemistry professor Dr. Maria DeRosa, will hold their next What Matters Now public event on Tuesday, March 4 in Thunder Bay, Ontario, from 6:30 to 9 pm. The debate will be moderated by broadcaster and journalist Piya Chattopadhyay. Professor DeRosa will discuss “Can nanotechnology help feed the world?” The event will be broadcast live here.

This experience came early for Carleton graduate Thomas Cullen, who made a discovery about pinnipeds, the suborder that makes up seals, sea lions and walruses, while doing research for his master’s in science at Carleton.

Chemistry professor David Miller is the lead author on an Open Access paper recently published in the World Mycotoxin Journal. The paper stemmed from a major international conference on mycotoxins (Mycored) held at Carleton in the summer of 2012.
