The Canadian Museum of Nature recently announced that a team from the musuem had unearthed evidence that a long-extinct camel once roamed the Artic. PhD student in Biology Danielle Fraser has been studying the fossil remains of Arctic Pronghorns to help track climate change. Read more here.

The Office of Student Affairs is in the process of recruiting students to fill volunteer positions on the Peer Conduct Board for the 2013-2014 academic year. The Peer Conduct Board is comprised of 16 undergraduate and graduate students forming two boards, who hear offences under the Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy and, in some cases, Residence Contract violations. The boards are advised by a professional staff member, and are trained by the Director of Student Affairs.

At an evening reception on February 7, the Faculty of Science celebrated the academic achievement of their students who had earned a place on the 2012 Dean’s List. First-year students whose academic record so far this year indicated they were on track to make it to the 2013 Dean’s List were also invited. The gala reception, held for the third year in a row, saw close to 200 students mingling with family, friends, faculty, administration, alumni and donors.

Cafe Scientifique to be held on Thursday, February 21 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm in Carleton's River Building Atrium.

Sport-related concussion is a "hot topic" in the media and in medicine. It is a common injury that is likely under-reported by pediatric and adolescent athletes. This Café Scientifique will provide a clearer understanding of the definition, signs and symptoms of concussion as well as concussion prevention and management in an effort to help both parents and athletes prevent, recognize and treat concussion properly.

A Carleton University research group has received a Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund worth more than $17,000 to help protect local waterways in the Great Lakes Basin. The group, led by Steven Cooke, associate professor of environmental science and biology, is planting native species and clearing debris from Watts Creek, a tributary of the Ottawa River. Their work will help protect water quality in the Ottawa River, which flows into the St. Lawrence River.
